Primary 2
Each Primary 2 class is supported by a dedicated teacher and a team of learning support assistants. All Primary 2 classrooms have access to their own outdoor learning areas. Pupils are grouped based on their ability and well-being, ensuring that each child receives the support they need to thrive.
We deliver a personalised curriculum that draws primarily from the Curriculum for Wales, though some pupils continue to follow the Developmental Pathways Curriculum where appropriate. Our teaching and learning strategies are tailored to meet the individual needs of every child.
In Primary 2, we provide a wide range of engaging and exciting learning experiences. Our lessons are fun, multi-sensory, and designed to spark curiosity through topical themes. We place a strong emphasis on kinaesthetic and practical activities, ensuring that all pupils can access and enjoy learning while developing a variety of important skills.
Learning isn’t limited to the classroom—our pupils regularly explore the outdoors and local community. Weekly sessions make use of our new outdoor playground and on-site hydrotherapy pool. Off-site learning includes visits to the local sensory room, forest school area, soft play centres, walking trails, and parks.
We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to help pupils build functional life skills, ensuring they’re supported both in school and at home.
Our curriculum focuses on:-
- Ambitious, capable learners who are ready for lifelong learning. We focus on helping pupils gain independence in daily tasks such as expressing preferences, completing activities, and interacting with peers. Interventions like Relationship-Based Play are used to support these skills.
- Enterprising, creative contributors who can take an active role in life and work. Learners develop functional life skills through practical, real-world experiences.
- Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the wider world. We foster a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to explore Welsh culture and heritage, helping pupils understand how their actions impact others.
- Healthy, confident individuals who can lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society. We promote communication in all its forms through a Total Communication approach and offer therapies such as Hydrotherapy, Move, and Healthy Eating to support overall well-being.
